Shawna Clough, MS

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

In therapy it’s important to have a non-judgmental, safe, and compassionate space to talk about the most intimate aspects of our lives. My hope is to help people of all gender, sexual, racial, and relational identities to feel embraced as they are, while working to become the version of themselves they hope to be.

My clinical specialties include individual and couples therapy, affairs/infidelity, co-parenting, grief work, somatic/trauma work, and family of origin issues. I also work with kids ages 2-10 and their families offering play therapy and parental guidance and support.

Whether you are looking for healing, or want to focus on health and personal growth, I'm happy to help you discover how therapy can improve your life and your relationships.

I enjoy helping individuals heal traumas and relationships, identify their strengths, and embrace who they truly are and all aspect of their identity.

Together we can help you with anxiety and depression and build skills and confidence to cope with life's challenges.  We can help you clarify your story so you can understand how you came to be who you are today, and your next steps into becoming who you want to be in the future.

Couples and Relationship Therapy

Relationships are challenging and sometimes get stuck in patterns of conflict and distance.  I support couples who want to improve their relationship and intimacy, as well as those working through trauma, attachment wounds, loss of trust, and considering separation or divorce.

I am also trained in supporting couples and individuals in non-traditional relationships who are looking for an open and non-judgmental space to explore their beliefs and relationships.

I believe relationships have the power to heal when we feel safe, seen, and cared for. I bring skills from Gottman’s approach and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy to help understand the deeper attachment needs and bonds that need tending to in intimate relationships.

Child & Family Therapy - Ages 2-10

I have years of experience working with kids, supporting them with emotional regulation and utilizing trauma informed play therapy. Children tend to benefit most with the support of caring adults, where they can feel safe and supported. I believe working with children is a collaboration between therapist and parents/guardians to best support the child. I specialize in children ages 2-10 and enjoy collaborating with parents to offer guidance and explore parenting strategies.

My Clinical Approach:

My approach to therapy is client-centered and relational. I will strive to validate my client’s experience and offer guidance/feedback as necessary. I can be direct at times, while I also provide a space of compassionate listening and guide the client to uncover their own inner resources.

I like to work collaboratively with my clients and believe the client is the expert in their life. I understand and appreciate the variety of concerns people are faced with and I aim to personalize treatment to meet their needs.

Therapeutic approaches I align with include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, and Narrative Therapy. I see myself as a guide during our work together, where I hope to empower you to believe in the wisdom of your body and your emotions.
