Lori McDaniel, MA

Licensed Professional Counselor (WI)
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (MN)

Life is challenging and sometimes we find ourselves in unfamiliar and stressful situations. I work with adults, children, teens, couples, and families. I have worked with families in various roles for over twenty years supporting and guiding them through challenges.  I am passionate about walking with families through their healing process and my goal is that you leave feeling heard, validated and understood.

Child Therapy

I work with children of all ages. I have experience working with children who struggle with anxiety, depression, attachment issues, trauma, peer interaction and challenging behaviors. I am trained in experiential play therapy which provides an effective and comfortable space for children preschool through elementary age to share their feelings and experiences through play. Play is often said to be the language of children. Children use play to communicate their experiences and I enjoy using this method as a way of relating to kids.

I have also been trained in Child Parent Psychotherapy, an evidence based therapy for caregivers and children ages birth to five who have trauma exposure or a strained connection with their parent or caregiver.  I view myself as a bridge to helping parents understand what their child is communicating through play.

Preteens and Teens

I provide therapy for preteen and teens helping them gain skills and perspective while making meaning of their experiences.  I have experience working with teens who have academic struggles, depression, trauma, social anxiety, family conflicts, and peer interaction. These transitional years can be confusing and stressful. I believe that parents are a crucial part of the therapy process and will be included in the therapy process depending on the age of the child or teen.

Individual Adult therapy

I am also passionate about working with adults. I believe everyone has a story and their story is important. I enjoy getting to know my clients and their story. I use a narrative approach to better understand where someone has been and help them to reframe or rewrite their story.  Everyone is unique and I tailor my approach to fit the needs of the individual. I have training in Child and Play Therapy, Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and Maternal Mental Health.  I also provide faith based counseling for those who desire to approach the counseling experience from this perspective.
