    Kristy Kahl

    Kristy Kahl, MS
    Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

I’m so glad you are considering counseling! No issue is too small and no one is too “normal” for therapy; any change that improves our lives is a worthwhile one. We all deserve a place to feel safe and understood and to focus on taking care of ourselves – accepting, improving and empowering ourselves.

I typically work with women who are looking for help to feel better about themselves and their relationships, to improve stress and anxiety and to let go of negative patterns. I also work with college students/young adults to improve academic stress, anxiety, relationships and coping with transitions.

Here are a few of the most common issues I work with:

    • Confidence and self-worth
    • Anxiety and depression
    • Motherhood
    • People-pleasing
    • Academic/work stress
    • Shame, guilt, vulnerability
    • Assertiveness and boundaries
    • Self-compassion
    • Resentment, frustration
    • Relationships
    • Mindfulness and relaxation
    • Divorce, separation, grief
    • Perfectionism, self-criticism
    • Emotional awareness/regulation

My style is genuine and non-judgmental and my hope is that you’ll feel truly understood and empowered to make changes. I believe in a holistic, collaborative approach which often includes helping connect you with supportive resources, helping you gain a deeper understanding of your emotions and struggles as well as helping you learn the skills needed to make positive and lasting changes.

    Women and Motherhood

There are so many unique challenges, conflicting messages and societal pressures for women today. It can be hard to avoid comparison and stay true to ourselves. Together, we can identify what’s getting in your way so you can fully embrace our own unique strengths, abilities, knowledge and beauty. By making your needs a priority, you can shift the frustration, resentment and guilt that you may be carrying around to create space for happiness, self-confidence and more genuine and connected relationships.

The same applies to motherhood, there is such an abundance of information and judgment alike. It can be hard to know what to do when you or your family is struggling, or what advice to listen to when it seems like each new piece of information contradicts the last. It is easy to get overwhelmed! I can help you sort through it all to follow your intuition, create space for self-care and provide you with solid ways to make life calmer and more joyful for you and your family.

    College Students/Young Adults

Teens and young adults are growing up in a different world than any other generation. The knowledge, insight and self-awareness you possess is so inspiring! However, our greatest strengths are also usually our greatest struggles. The current culture can lead to stress and anxiety, emotional burnout and believing you are never good enough. This can get better! By learning to understand yourself on a deeper level and finding productive ways to manage anxiety, relationship issues, emotions and self-doubt, you’ll be able to feel more confident, joyful and able to focus on what really matters to you!

    Individual Relationship Counseling

I work with individuals wanting to improve their relationships as well as individuals going through or considering a separation. We will address the core of your struggles so you can understand yourself, your needs and behaviors on a deeper level, allowing you to change negative patterns. And if you’re going through separation or divorce, you can find peace and healing through this process, while also addressing the problems in your past relationship so they don’t repeat themselves in your next.
