Kathy Lomen, MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MN, WI)
As a therapist I believe in developing a strong and trusting relationship with my clients in order to establish an emotionally safe space that is empowering, that fosters growth, and where my clients feel deeply heard and accepted. I am passionate about helping individuals and couples break free from long-standing negative and self-defeating patterns, increase their sense of wholeness and wellbeing, and learn skills for developing and strengthening emotional connections.
I work with adults individually or within the coupled context. My therapeutic approach is rooted in attachment and systems theories but I also integrate complementary methods in order to meet the individual needs of my clients. My therapeutic style is collaborative and I bring empathy, authenticity, gentle humor and optimism to my practice. I see my role as finding a balance between leading, following, and sometimes just simply being with my clients. I’ve been a therapist for over 18 years and my heart for this work continues to grow.
I specialize in couples counseling and utilize an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) approach. EFT focuses on helping couples identify and disrupt negative patterns of interaction and work towards developing and strengthening the bonds of emotional intimacy and security. While I believe relationships can be one of the most powerful factors in promoting happiness, growth, and fulfillment, I recognize they can cause some of our most profound pain. My goal is to help couples reestablish and deepen trust in order to find healing and to create a relationship that is closer and more satisfying.
Other areas of interest I enjoy working with include mood and anxiety disorders, adult attention-deficit disorders, grief and loss, navigating/adjusting to life transitions, creating a more balanced lifestyle/stress reduction, increasing self-understanding and self-esteem, and relationship concerns.
